Father Given Months To Live After Feeling Pins And Needles On Holiday

Father given months to live after feeling pins and needles on holiday

Robert Armstrong, 58, was enjoying a bucket list trip to the USA when he started to feel strange sensations in his face and fingers.

The marine engineer was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive form of cancer after returning home and has been given just months to live.

Mr Armstrong, from South Shields, Tyne and Wear, was on a once-in-a-lifetime holiday with his wife, Carol, when he began to feel the pins and needles.

He also started to experience headaches and nausea, and his vision became blurred.

When he returned home, he went to see his GP, who referred him to hospital for tests.

A biopsy revealed that Mr Armstrong had a rare and aggressive form of cancer called glioblastoma multiforme (GBM).

GBM is a type of brain cancer that starts in the glial cells, which support the nerve cells in the brain. It is the most common type of brain cancer in adults.

Mr Armstrong has been told that he has just months to live. He is currently undergoing radiotherapy and chemotherapy in a bid to prolong his life.

His wife, Carol, said: "It's been a devastating blow. We thought we were going to have a wonderful holiday, but it turned into a nightmare.

"Robert is a wonderful husband and father. He's always been so full of life and energy. It's heartbreaking to see him like this."

A fundraising page has been set up to help the family with the costs of Mr Armstrong's treatment.
